Current Status and Thoughts

In January 2026, Windsor County Elected Sheriff stepped away from the day to day operations of the department. I was asked to lead the department going forward. I am grateful for my years of experience working in Windsor County in many capacities. Based on my experience, I was able to jump right in and work with the team to take necessary steps to improve the status of the department. I have had the opportunity to collaborate with other County Sheriffs and speak to many town and state representative for guidance and support.

When this change happened, the department was struggling in some areas. I have since been working with, and learning from other Vermont Sheriffs, attending many Community or emergency services meetings, working with the office team to improve the finances, negotiating and working on finalizing the upcoming year town contracts and much more.

At the time of this website creation, three months have passed by. In some ways, it has been a little bit of a rocky road. However, things are now going really well. We have straightened a lot of the financial issues and problems that we had. Our accounts are growing. Even though it has been a challenging time for the department in general, things are going well. We are doing all the things that we were doing before and serving the communities. While I had no time to prepare for this task, I have taking it on with a positive outlook for the future. Many days, my mind goes back to many of the experiences from the early days, from the years growing up, to the years of farming, the sacrifices in Mexico, to the years of coaching sports. These experiences have all helped me prepare to be able to go through what I have had to go through these last couple months, to get things back in order at the Sheriff's Department. I appreciate all the deputies and the office team as well as other Vermont Sheriffs, Community Members and town/state leaderships for their support of the Sheriff's Office.

In 2022, I was Elected the High Bailiff and took an oath to serve Windsor County if the Elected Sheriff was ever not able to. I am grateful I did this to know that the department would be ran by someone who was familiar with the day-to-day processes. I am running the day to day at this time but, I do not feel I am done yet. Whenever I do officially leave the department, I want to leave it better than the way I found it. I have a love for the county, for the department, and am dedicated to changes that are positive and beneficial to the County. I look forward to the opportunity to improve the relations with the Communities and their members to build a strong connection of trust and support.
